French deputies approved a measure allowing the extension of police custody up to 120 hours for drug "mules" in an effort to combat drug trafficking. The measure, initially removed in committee, was reinstated with support from the right and the far-right. The rationale is to gather more evidence, while ensuring the rights of those detained are protected, including access to a lawyer and medical unit.
